the best would be 100% judges marks so we have 100% quality not popularity.

but it was 50% professional judge marks, and 50% sms voting – in that way i think it was quite fair. yeah, the professional does judges, and gives opinion, but that’s about it. they make it 100% sms voting and no professional judging. they make af looks like big brother, and mtv it’s my life, to show the audience, perhaps the real things thats going on in other people’s lives – to make the audience feel connected to the contestants. malaysia muhibbah!! whatever it is, i hope this time around, the winner of AF4 would be based on quality and not popularity! yeay!Īf is back? great! af fever is back! frankly, i’m not really into af, but i do remember that i cried when burn from af1 was voted out. to see Vince from af1 won, it shows that the malay dominated malaysia is open-minded, not racist, and voted for what i think is good singer without looking at the race. people will stay at home and watch it live on tv, knowing millions other malaysians are watching it too.

before i get too carried away… the reality with akademi fantasia is not matter what my opinion about reality tv shows in malaysia especially this one, it does bring malaysia together. you guys know what i mean rite? what do we get in return? ANYWAY…. correct me if i’m wrong… but c’mon people. but the question is… what do the voters get back in return? when zahid from AF2 won, dia janji nak buat kenduri roti canai (if we could go to his kampung), mawi menang, buat kenduri doa selamat (if we could go to his kampung too) or something like that.

it used to be 30 cents per sms vote, but now is 50 cents (or are they going to increase it again?) per sms. trust me, i’ve close relatives who were severely down with AF fever. the audience whom are emotionally connected to the contestants (whom could be a complete stranger to them) would spend hundreds if not thousands of ringgit just to feel the temporary high that their fave ‘shining’ star is not voted out that week. if they dun win, they might gain some fame, worst case scenario they’d get an AF mug and AF t-shirt in the end. the contestants are not paid ‘to act’, they only stand a chance to win. but if we think about it carefully, in reality, reality tv shows need the lowest budget to produce.

PS: This Lil entry got its inspiration from my involvement with AF this year as Cikgu FitnessĪf is back? great! af fever is back! frankly, i’m not really into af, but i do remember that i cried when burn from af1 was voted out.

Welcome to Malaysia: the land of opportunity 🙂Īll in all, most reality shows are very popular but no one comes close to AF as they have a recipe that really other than Astro (in Malaysia) can pull off. And AF (and most other shows) do allow just about anyone (regardless of background) to shine. Not only for 1 season but across the seasons as AF generations perform together. Again it’s that family togetherness that is greatly appealing to the Malaysian audience. The winners go on doing their things BUT with AF you continuously get to see them TOGETHER during hari raya, events, etc.

In most other competitions once the competition is over, that’s pretty much it. I think we the whole infrastructure that Astro possesses, they have a great platform to launch the careers of not only the winner but the whole bunch. This jives well with our cultures and people like that (I do too!)įAMILY MAESTRO. That’s what the Malaysian spirit is all about, working together. The great thing about every AF concert is that you see all the students “helping” each other during performances…either by being back up singers, play instruments together, dance, etc. That I think gets people all wrapped up because they get to see them “grow” over time. In no other reality show (except for Big Brother which is not shown here) that people can tune in to the lives of their favorite pelajar. It’s because of Channel 15 that people get so attracted to the lives and personalities of the students. Aside from the obvious, it’s about togetherness, caring, drama, connecting with the audience, and creating the success story everyone dreams about!Ĭhannel 15. Why is AF such a hot cake in town?! It’s probably not only thanks to the student’s talents but because it appeals to the Malaysian audience! Period.
